Integrated Parasite Management in Small Ruminants Workshop

Schuyler Cty Youth Site - Martin Building

9:30 am – 2:00pm

This workshop is set up to help participants control internal parasites in their small ruminants (sheep, goats, alpacas, llamas) through a variety of management strategies and hands-on techniques. Cost is $15 for first family participant for a parasite manual and a FAMACHA diagnosis card. Additional family members are $5. Space is limited, so please pre-register by Wednesday, May 28th by calling Schuyler CCE at 607-535-7161, or by email: cab377@cornell.edu. Workshop leader - tatiana Stanton

9:30 am Introductions

9:40 am Internal Parasites – Current situation/Knowing your enemy

10:20 am Break to prioritize your parasite problems

10:30 am Know your weapons – Management practices/Anthelmintics

12:00 pm Break into two groups – to learn to do FAMACHA scoring and to learn to do Fecal Egg Analysis (Please bring a fecal sample from 1 animal at your farm. We’ll provide microscopes but bring your own to test out if you have one).

1:40 pm Break into small groups to discuss future management plans.
2:00 pm Get FAMACHA certificates signed.
